Ingredients
Char Siu Sauce
3 tablespoons Sugar
3 tablespoons Honey
5 tablespoons Hoisin sauce
3 tablespoons Soy sauce
1/4 teaspoon White pepper
1/4 teaspoon Red food color
1 teaspoon Chinese Five Spice
1 teaspoon Sesame oil
Pork
1 pound Pork butt Cut into 1 inch thick slices
4 clove Garlic finely chopped
4 tablespoons Vegetable oil or butter
Directions
METHOD:
Place all ingredients for char siu sauce into a sauce pan, bring to a boil and then let simmer until thick. Remove from pan and let cool, hold for service.
Marinate the pork butt pieces with 2/3 of the char siu sauce and the chopped garlic overnight.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees, take of excess sauce and roast the meat for about 15 minutes. Remove from oven and brush with the sauce and place in the oven until cooked through about 10 to 15 minutes more. Remove from oven and let rest for 10 minutes and serve.
Chefs Note: You can also finish the meat on the grill if you like a bit more color on it. You may also want to line your pan with aluminum foil for a quicker clean up.
