“In high school, [in] my Home-Ec course we took an English Muffin, cut it in half, put ketchup on it, put cheese on it, and that was a pizza,” explained Chef Tomm. “Here, we make everything from scratch so they get the skills to go on into the business.”

The students also work with local businesses to bring their work to customers.

“We’re trying to do farm to table, we’re trying to do gluten-free, we’re trying to create a healthier environment for our clients and customers,” explained Eddie Torres, executive chef at These Guys brewery. “It’s nice to work with Chef Tomm and his program.”

“I thought it would be good to have the class make some of the sauces and we could name it after the program,” said Rod Cornish, owner of Hot Rod Cafe. “Maybe do some internships with some of the students and give them real life experience.”

Through the work of the students and with some help of industry professionals, students at New London High School are being prepped for the real world.
